Polybutadiene

Polybutadiene

What is Polybutadiene?

Polybutadiene is a synthetic rubber made through the polymerization of 1,3-butadiene. Known for its excellent elasticity, abrasion resistance, and low-temperature flexibility, Polybutadiene is one of the most widely used rubbers in the world. It is available in various forms—such as high-cis, low-cis, and solution-polymerized grades—each suited to different industrial applications.

Common Applications

  • Tire Manufacturing: Used in tread and sidewall compounds for improved wear resistance and fuel efficiency.
  • Plastic Modification: Enhances impact resistance in plastics like polystyrene and ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene).
  • Footwear Industry: Applied in the soles and midsoles of athletic and casual shoes for added durability and bounce.
  • Automotive Parts: Used in hoses, belts, and bushings for their flexibility and long-lasting performance.
  • Golf Balls: Improves energy transfer and resilience in core materials.
  • Adhesives & Sealants: Offers elasticity and strong bonding in industrial adhesives and joint sealants.
