What is Hexamine, Stabilized?
Stabilized Hexamine, also called hexamethylenetetramine or methenamine, is obtained from the reaction of ammonia and formaldehyde. It exists in a crystalline white form. The more stable version has heat and storage stability additives, as well as safety for handling it. It finds applications in explosives and resin production and is an industrial curing agent as well.
Common Applications
- Explosives Industry: Serves as a fuel component for RDX and other energetic materials.
- Resin Manufacturing: Functions as a curing agent to phenolic and some other thermosetting resins.
- Plastics and Rubber: Aids in vulcanization and crosslinking processes.
- Textiles: Crease-resistant fabric finishes and specialty chemical treatments.
- Known for its application in specific medical formulations, an antiseptic for the urinary tract.
- Solid fuel tablets intended for military purposes and camping are called Fuel Tablets and contain this compound.
- Serves as a chemical intermediate in the organic syntheses carried out in laboratories.
