Chromic Acid

Chromic Acid

What is Chromic Acid?

H₂CrO₄, commonly known as Chromic Acid, exists in a dark red crystalline form or as a solution. It is an oxygen donor, which can be produced by oxidizing metals. Due to its strong oxidation abilities, it cleans, etches, oxidizes, and is used as an etching solution for metal surfaces while making it necessary for wide use in manufacturing and surface treatment.

Common Applications

Due to its properties in surface modification and its reactivity, Chromic Acid has numerous applications across different industries. Industries that benefit from our supply include:

  • Electroplating: Tends to enhance the appearance of metals as well as their resisting capabilities towards corrosion through chrome plating.
  • Glass and ceramic Industry: Added to glassware to color and etch glass.
  • Metal Finishing: Used in stainless steel and aluminum passivation and anodizing, chromic acid is utilized in metal finishing as well.
  • Laboratory Use: Used to clean glassware, Chromic acid is an effective oxidizer for every laboratory grade equipment.
  • Preservative Wood Treatment: Used for wood protection, chromic acid serves for treating wood.
  • Pigments and Investments: Utilized in producing pigment chromate and coatings for industrial grade, pigments are also made for chromate-based pigments for dyes.
  • Chemical Manufacturing: Used in the preparation of different chromium compounds.
